Firefighters Make Quick Work of Porch Fire at Boardwalk Store

The Ocean City Fire Department extinguishes a small fire at George's.

Some Ocean City streets were blocked shortly before noon as the Ocean City Fire Department responded to a small fire on a rear porch at  on the 700 block of the Boardwalk.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes. There were no injuries, and with the fire limited to the porch area, George's is back open for business. , a neighboring business was also briefly evacuated but suffered no damage.

The fire is believed to have started in a condensor unit, according to Ocean City Fire Capt. Mark McCulley. But an investigation continues.

Parts of Wayne Avenue, Seventh Street and Atlantic Avenue were closed briefly as four companies responded.

The fire occurred on the hottest day of 2012 with temperatures at 92 degrees at the time of the 11:37 a.m. call.
