Firefighters and Police Officers Donate to OCNJ CARE
The two forces combine to contribute $10,000 for relief after the record floods of the October storm Sandy.
The local firefighter and police unions recently donated $10,000 to OCNJ CARE, the volunteer group coordinated relief efforts in the wake of an October storm that caused record flooding in Ocean City and left an estimated $438 million in damage to city property, businesses and private residences.
The Ocean City Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association Local 27 and the Ocean City Policemen's Benevolent Association Local No. 61 contributed $5,000 apiece.
The unions asked that half the donation be designated for relief to downtown businesses.

Firefighter Ray Clark said the downtown merchants have always been generous with fundraising efforts by the unions, and the donation is a way to return the favor.
"No questions asked, they always support us," Clark said.

With firefighters and police officers among the many Ocean City residents displace by flood damage, Clark said the unions understand the importance of OCNJ CARE's work in helping families return to their homes.
"Writing this check was a good way to get started," Clark said.
