7 Options for the 'Lowly' Homeowners of Ocean City

In a wry new video, Ocean City filmmaker John Thornton asks 'pre-FIRM' homeowners, 'Are you stronger than the storm?'

If your home on the Jersey Shore was built before 1975 (in the days before the Flood Insurance Rate Map, or the 'pre-FIRM' era), there is a good chance that it was not elevated too far above ground level — a flooding risk that was realized by many during Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.

Ocean City filmmaker John Thornton — a resident of the south-end Ocean City Homes neighborhood — is one such owner, and his latest video features an ex-Marine named Jim Graham who is lifting his house — and has a sense of humor about the costly and complicated process that many are considering in the aftermath of Sandy.

In the post-Sandy world, Graham sees seven possibilities for those owners of low-lying homes. Watch Thornton's film by clicking above.
