Families Invited to Make Cards for Troops at Dec. 2 Event

Project Love Cards has a goal of 2,000 cards and is organizing an open house Dec. 2 in Corbin City.

A local initiative to collect cards and send care packages to military personnel serving overseas during the holidays has a goal of 2,000 cards, and families are invited to a Dec. 2 event to help meet the goal.

Project Love Cards will sponsor the event that asks families to come out and make cards for troops 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the Let’s Party Painters Creative Arts & Events Studio at 112 Route 50 in Corbin City (across from L’s Tavern).

At the event, veterans will explain to the children what it's like to be away from home during the holidays and what receiving a card from home could mean.

A military jeep will be on hand for people to see and explore. Toys for Tots will collect toy donations. Santa will stop by for pictures with children. The event also includes Captain America, princesses, face-painting, food, music, prizes (every card is a chance to win prizes donated from the business community, such as $150 from Verizon Wireless).
