Everyday Inspirations: Steve Cole a Veteran Helping Veterans with R&R Program

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Steve Cole
Town: Ocean City, NJ
Nominated by: Doug Otto

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Steve is a member of American Legion Post 524 in Ocean City. He is a veteran helping veterans. Steve started the Veterans R & R (Rest and Relaxation) Program, where he hosts vets returning from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan (together with their families) and treats them to an all expenses paid week in Ocean City.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

Steve's R & R Program gives war-weary vets and their supportive families a much needed break from the ravages of war and overseas duty. He solicits donations from local Ocean City merchants, who give their services for free, including a luxury condo for a week at a time.

Other donations include dinners in local restaurants, groceries, and amusement rides for the children. A welcoming parade includes the American Legion motorcycle riders and a police and fire truck escort.
