Beach Safety a Long Tradition in Ocean City
On Thursday, Mayor Jay Gillian will declare Ocean City's participation in National Beach Safety Week.
During the summer of 1898, Ocean City lifeguard Joseph Krauss supplemented his $40 per month salary by teaching swimming lessons.
On May 16, 2013, Mayor Jay Gillian will sign a proclamation declaring Ocean City’s participation in National Beach Safety Week, May 25 to June 2.
The proclamation reminds bathers to take appropriate measures to protect themselves including: swim near a lifeguard; never swim alone; never drink alcohol before swimming; respect the power of the surf; and learn to swim.
