Winter Carnival

Families can enjoy games, food, music, entertainment and a Chinese auction during the event 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ocean City Intermediate School.

The Betsy Young Memorial Fund will present a Winter Carnival for families from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Ocean City Intermediate School.

The family event includes games, prizes, food, music, special guests and a special Chinese Auction. 


Proceeds benefit the Betsy Young Scholarship Fund for Ocean City High School students. The fund is named for a music teacher who inspired many young students in her 13 years of teaching at Ocean City Intermediate School. Young died of a form of brain cancer at age 50 in August 2011.

At the fundraiser, popular carnival games such as disk drop, bean bag toss, quarter pitch and lucky duck will be featured. Fifteen games will be set up and available to play at a cost of 1 to 3 tickets per game.

The same "Admit One" tickets will be good for games, food, face-painting, karaoke and for the Chinese auction. Tickets start at $15 for 10. Bigger purchases are discounted: $25 for 20 tickets, $50 for 50 tickets, and only $90 for 100 tickets.

Game players receive one prize ticket for playing and an additional prize ticket for winning.


A sample of activities includes:



  • Face-painting: 2 tickets

  • Karaoke: 2 tickets

  • Use three of the "Admit One" tickets for one entry ticket for the Chinese Auction!

  • Hot dogs: 2 Tickets

  • Beverages: 1 Ticket

  • Dessert: 1 Ticket

  • Popcorn: 2 Tickets

  • Cotton candy: 2 Tickets


The Chinese Auction includes gifts from local merchants and local celebrities such as NBC40 sportscaster Pete Thompson (dinner with Pete and a tour of the NBC40 studio) and magician Chad Juros (an autographed copy of the DVD "Spread the Magic").

Shore Entertainment featuring DJ Bill will provide music, karaoke and live music video. From 7 to 8 p.m., free entertainment will be provided by The Magic of Chad Juros (chadjuros.com).

Artist Nancy Palermo has provided face-in-hole photo props featuring strong man, bearded lady and more.

Another addition to the carnival is henna tattoos by Christina. Tina will provide Floral Henna Tattoos for 4 tickets. Face-painting by Brianna Lynn will cost two tickets. Balloons are free.
