Ocean City Voters Head to the Polls in Senate, Congressional Primaries Tuesday

Congressman Frank LoBiondo faces a challenge from Mike Assad in the Republican primary, while William Hughes Jr. faces Dave Cole in the Democratic primary.

Although Ocean City voters just hit the polls three weeks ago, it’s time for the next round of voting.

This time, voters will come out for the Democratic and Republican primaries for U.S. Senate and Congress on Tuesday, June 3.

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, who defeated Republican Steve Lonegan in last year’s special election, will run for a full term. He is the only Democrat running in Tuesday’s primary.

Jeff Bell, Brian Goldberg, Rich Pezullo and Murray Sabrin compete for the Republican nomination in November’s election.

In the Second Congressional District race, incumbent Frank LoBiondo faces a primary challenge from former Mike Assad, a former member of the Absecon School District’s Board of Education, in the Republican primary.

Attorney William Hughes Jr., the son of former Congressman William Hughes Sr., will is running for the Democratic nomination against former White House Aide Dave Cole.

The Second Congressional District covers Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties, and parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Ocean counties.

Cape May County Freeholders Kristine Gabor and Will Morey, both Republicans, are running for re-election, as is Sheriff Gary Schaffer, also a Republican.

No Democratic challengers have filed petitions.

Polls are open 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
