Candidates Set for Forums This Week; Election Reports Released

A forum for council candidates is set for Wednesday night, 6 p.m. at the library, followed by a forum for the candidates for mayor.

The Ocean City Community Association hosts a pair of forums ahead of the May 13 non-partisan municipal elections.

A forum involving the candidates for Ocean City’s three at-large council seats is set for Wednesday night at the library at 6 p.m. It is to be followed by a forum involving Mayor Jay Gillian and challenger Ed Price at 7 p.m.

On Monday morning, the each candidate’s report filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission were released to the public.

To access the reports, citizens may visit the law enforcement commission's website and enter a candidate’s name and office they are pursuing. Reports were due by April 14 and published Monday morning.

According to the reports, Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian contributed $25,000 to his own re-election campaign and has spent $7,063.26. He’s received no outside contributions.

Gillian’s opponent Ed Price has received a total of $8,721 in contributions and spent $2,665 on his campaign.

Price received a $1,000 contribution from Ed Sheppard and $2,600 from attorney Neil Stackhouse. Price contributed $600 to his own campaign.

Incumbent Councilman Michael Allegretto contributed $1,000 to his own campaign, and doesn’t intend to spend more than $4,500 on his campaign.

Incumbent Councilman Keith Hartzell contributed $1,000 to his own campaign. Hartzell reported no expenses.

Peter Madden has raised $7,955.58 in donations from John Capek ($1,000) and Meri Croce ($500), Ken Wisnefski ($1,000). He also loaned $2,331.58 to his own campaign and has spent $1,896.58.

Candidate Michael Hyson contributed $500 to his own campaign and received a $100 contribution from James Scanlon. He stated he doesn’t intend to spend more than $4,500 on his campaign.

Eric Sauder received a $500 contribution from Roy Wagner, and stated he will not spend more than $4,500 on his campaign.
