Tropical Storm Emily Breaks Apart But Could Regenerate

The projected path takes the low-pressure system up the Atlantic Ocean.

A low-pressure system that could eventually send rough surf toward New Jersey weakened as it passed over Haiti and eastern Cuba on Thursday night.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Emily are near the Bahamas and have a 60 percent chance of regenerating into a tropical storm (winds 39 to 73 mph) within the next 48 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The projected path of the system skirts Florida then moves northeast away from the U.S. coast and into the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

If the storm does regenerate and gain strength, there's some chance Ocean City and the New Jersey coast could see rough surf on Monday and Tuesday as the system passes by several hundred miles out to sea.
