Thursday Beach Report: Surf Conditions Improving

The waves, wind and weather at dawn on the beach and Boardwalk in Ocean City.

Big surf from distant Hurricane Katia continues to hammer the beaches in Ocean City on Thursday morning.

The morning is slightly foggy and overcast, and the steady east winds that created less than ideal surf conditions on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday are gone.

In a quick tour of surfing beaches at Waverly, First Street, Fifth Street and Ninth Street at around 7 a.m., we couldn't find any surfers paddling out. But conditions looked to be improving—particularly at the downtown beaches that are a little more sheltered from the northeast swell.

The waves are overhead -- with big sets starting to show through the chop. The forecast calls for more east winds today (they just haven't shown up yet), so there may be a short window on Thursday to get out.

Low tide is 11:11 a.m., and high tide is 5:15 p.m.

Back on land, we're looking at a forecast of occasional showers and a high of 78 degrees.

Traffic: No issues this morning.
