Statement From Ocean City Emergency Management Office

The city warns everyone to evacuate and provides information on a shelter.

IMPORTANT WEATHER STATEMENT: Sunday, October 28 1:00 pm 

Ocean City, NJ:  The City of Ocean City is under a mandatory evacuation order.  Everyone must be off the island by 4:00 pm on Sunday.  Access to Ocean City will be restricted beginning at 4:00 pm.

Residents are advised to tell a family member or friend where you plan to relocate.  This is especially important to residents who have a caregiver.

The City has opened a staging shelter at Ocean City High School for residents needing transport to the County shelter at Upper Township Middle School.

The Upper Township Middle School shelter will open at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday for Ocean City residents with transportation.

Residents are asked to make every effort to arrange for temporary lodging off the island with family or friends.

Weather conditions in Ocean City will deteriorate rapidly as the day goes on.  As the storm approaches, Ocean City is likely to experience tropical storm like conditions for an extended period of time.  Some wind gusts may reach hurricane force.  Major tidal flooding and beach erosion will occur.  No one is permitted on the beach at this time.

Storm preparations should be rushed to completion. Secure all loose items on and around your property or bring them inside. 

Residents who need to move spare vehicles prior to leaving the island should be aware that some areas that normally are safe may not me high enough for the flooding that will occur with this storm.

It is important to continue to closely monitor weather conditions and forecasts for the next 48-72 hours.
