Saturday's Wind Yields Big Surf for Sunday

The waves, wind and weather at dawn in Ocean City. A survival guide for surfers, runners, homeowners and all those who can't wait for another summer.

On Sunday morning on the beach on the north end, the waves are chest- to head-high with bigger sets rolling in.

The surf is the result of the strong ocean winds that kept Saturday's Doo Dah Parade on the chilly side.

On land, Sunday is shaping up to be warmer than Saturday. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s. It will still be windy, but not quite like Saturday. West winds will be sustained a 18 to 25 mph with some stronger gusts.

The summer countdown shows only 43 days until Memorial Day and the unofficial start of another season.

Surf: It still looks a little stormy in the surf on Sunday morning with the wind out of the southwest. But the forecast calls for pure offshore winds later in the day, so the news only gets better. It should be a solid day of surf all the way through. Low tide is around 1:25 p.m., and the ocean temperature is 47.1 degrees at Steel Pier on Sunday morning.

Boardwalk: Runners, riders and March for Babies walkers will see the return of the sun, some warmer temperatures and some land breezes. Early on Sunday morning, the wind is out of the southwest, so the trip north toward First Street carries the tailwind.

Homes: No worries today.
