Philadelphia Boys Choir Performs at St. Peter's on Saturday

The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 8.

The world-renowned Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale, America’s Ambassadors of Song, is back at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Ocean City on Saturday, June 8.

Doors open for general seating at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. concert. Call St. Peter’s at 609-399-2988 for tickets — on sale at $10. Children 12-and-under are free.

This evening performance will showcase the angelic voices of 80 boys complemented by a men’s chorale. The program theme is “The French Connection” with music having some connection to France or Americans in France.

Songs include “Salut Printemps” by Debussy, “One Day More” from Les Miserables, “J’Entends le Moulin,” a French folk song, and “The World Is Round,” a new work by Robert Moran (a Philadelphia composer) based on a Gertrude Stein children’s book.  There will be  Gershwin tunes, standards such as "America the Beautiful," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Holy" and much more.

Founded in 1968 and currently under the musical direction of Jeffrey R. Smith, a choir alumnus and assistant conductor for Peter Nero and the Philly POPS, the Choir’s achievements include world tours — most recently to our national parks and China. They will tour France this summer.

The Choir performs for heads of state and make recordings with internationally renowned orchestras, with praise from critics and audiences around the world.  Recent engagements include Carnegie Hall, The Kimmel Center, Mann Center for the Performing Arts, Academy of Music, and Irvine Auditorium.  The group performs regularly on local and national television including "Good Morning America."

Emphasizing the preservation and promotion of American music, the Choir provides the finest in musical education and training to talented young boys and men, regardless of ethnic, religious, or economic backgrounds.  Scholarship opportunities are available to those in need.  All boys ages 7 to 12 are welcome to register for an audition by calling the Choir office at 215-222-3500.  For more information, visit www.phillyboyschoir.org.
