Ocean City Closes Skateboard Park
The city will eventually replace equipment at the Sixth Street and Boardwalk facility.
The city-owned at Sixth Street and Boardwalk was dismantled and hauled away on Wednesday (Oct. 26), leaving an empty stretch of pavement and a lot of angry skaters.
By Thursday afternoon, 205 people were following a Facebook page called Rebuild Ocean City Nj Skatepark. The page's description included the following:
"Ocean City Park was knocked down overnight and the local community was never notified. REBUILD OCEAN CITY SKATEPARK!"

"Safety was our first concern," Jim Mallon, Ocean City's director of community services, said on Thursday.
Mallon said the city's safety concerns focused on deteriorating equipment and the fact that bicycles were using the park, despite signs saying they are prohibited.

He said the city will assess the condition of the existing equipment, saving what it can. He also said the city will study which equipment is appropriate for the most popular uses of the park (skateboards, bikes, scooters).
Mallon said the city has no firm timetable on rebuilding the park.
