Morning Island Report: Nice Surf, Warm Water, Blue Skies

The waves, wind and weather at dawn on the beach and Boardwalk in Ocean City.

A handful of longboarders are tearing it up on hip-high waves that are peeling off the jetty at Surf Road. The waves come courtesy of a light offshore breeze that's blowing on Tuesday morning.

The whole scene is fairly spectacular with blue skies, crisp air and an ocean water temperature that's 71 degrees at a time of year when it's usually in the lower 60s.

The National Weather Service forecast is a little more dour. They're giving us a 40 percent chance of showers after 11 a.m. on an otherwise partly sunny day with a high of 74. They're also repeating the Coastal Flood Advisory they issued on Monday. The warning is in effect for 5 to 10 p.m.

There are no storms in the forecast to cause the flooding, but an approaching full moon and some persistent north and east winds have been creating some big tides. High tide at the Ninth Street Bridge is 7:54 p.m. tonight.

Surf: The west winds were creating a nice break at Surf Road at high tide on Tuesday morning. But it's hard to tell if the waves will stick around for the day. The tide is falling until 12:41 p.m. and the wind is supposed to shift to the north. Definitely worth a look.
