Monday Beach Report: Blue Sky and Rough Surf

The waves, wind and weather at dawn on the beach and Boardwalk in Ocean City.

After what turned out to be a pretty cloudy weekend, the sun is back on Monday morning.

It's still very cool on the beach on the north end (air is in the 50s) in the morning, and we're headed for a high of 70 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong northeast winds all weekend have churned up the ocean, and big choppy waves are pounding the beaches on Monday. After surviving Hurricane Irene relatively unscathed in late August, Ocean City's beaches are seeing erosion from a series of storms and swells in September.

The ocean water temperature is 69 degrees on Monday morning, and high tide is around 12:30 p.m.

Surf: There's plenty of swell out there on Monday morning, but it's still a mess. Choppy overhead waves are coming out of the northeast, and a light sea breeze is not helping to clean things up. Worth a look all day -- but you'll need to find the right break or a break in the wind.

Traffic: No issues early on Monday morning -- though the Route 52 causeway was backed up at several different times during the weekend as traffic has returned to one lane in each direction during ongoing construction.
