Hurricane Katia Moves Out and Maria Emerges

Updates on two tropical storm systems within range of Ocean City.

Hurricane Katia passed within 400 miles of Ocean City before dawn on Friday morning and is now moving away toward Europe over the open water of the Atlantic Ocean.

Katia is still a Category 1 Storm with 85 mph winds, but the storm should weaken rapidly as it reaches colder water.

Big swells from the distant storm are still hitting Ocean City beaches on Friday morning and causing more erosion than during Hurricane Irene at the end of August.
