Hurricane Katia: Latest Track Shows Little Change

The storm is expected to pass about 350 miles from Ocean City.

Hurricane Katia will travel on a path between Bermuda and the United States on Wednesday (Sept. 7), and its predicted track will keep the storm about 350 miles from Ocean City when it passes closest on Friday.

Katia was a Category 2 storm with winds of 105 mph on Tuesday night. The hurricane is expected to weaken as it moves north on a path over cooler Atlantic Ocean waters, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Swells from the distant storm reached Ocean City on Tuesday, and surfers enjoyed a great morning of surf as a west wind made for clean conditions. But strong northeast winds created a choppy swirl by midday.

Southeast winds of 10 to 15 knots with stronger gusts are predicted for Wednesday.

The swells from Katia should peak Thursday into Friday with waves well overhead. The storm surf will create dangerous conditions for swimming.
