This week's "Then and Now" features the opening parade of the Ninth Street Bridge.
The first image shows dignitaries parading across the now demolished Beach Thorofare Bridge when it was officially opened in May 1933. The Flanders Hotel can be seen in the background as the cars proceeded towards Somers Point.
The second image shows the parade of vehicles crossing the causeway from Somers Point for the ribbon-cutting at the foot of the new Ninth Street Bridge in Ocean City held on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

weekend.. sad though to see the 9th street bridge into Ocean City destroyed up close and personal... it was a land mark with architectural character rich with history ..so much part of the Jersey Shores charm replaced by ugly concrete in the sky. Stopping for a drawbridge is not such a terrible thing..I liked stopping for a few moments to take in the sights and sounds of the water ways. Today all you could here was the sound of racing cars echoing the bay and it felt as though the draw bridge had been swallowed by the sea when of course we know its history was destroyed by man and unfortunate none of its character and charm were persevered.
