Historical Images: Bank Becomes a Chapel at Eighth and Asbury

A new weekly feature includes photographs from the Ocean City Historical Museum collection and from the modern era.

This week's "Then and Now" features the building on the northwest corner of Eighth Street and Asbury Avenue.

The first photo is from the 1911 Ocean City Directory, when the building was home to the First National Bank. The property was built in 1895 by a local masonry contractor, Harry Headly. It was the first all-brick building to be constructed in Ocean City. After a new competing bank, the Ocean City Title & Trust, opened across Eighth Street, the building was renovated to its current appearance.

The second photograph shows the building as it appears today as home to . If you take a look down the alley between the this building and Sun Rose Books, you will see the building's original brick work. The building is listed for rent or sale as Calvary Chapel moves into its new home at Eighth Street and West Avenue.
