Historical Images: 40th and Central After '62 Storm
Our weekly feature includes photographs from the Ocean City Historical Museum collection and from the modern era.
This week's "Then and Now" features the view looking northwest from 40th Street and Central Avenue following the infamous nor'easter that struck Ocean City from March 6 to 8 in 1962.
The first image shows a home that was washed from its foundation and came to rest on the southwest corner of 40th Street and Central Avenue. Our Lady of Good Counsel church is on the right side of the photo and in the distance the 34th Street Bridge is visible.
The second image shows the same intersection today. Our Lady of Good Counsel church still stands but the view of the 34th Street Bridge is now hidden by the homes along Asbury and West Avenues.

This Thursday, March 8, at 7 p.m., the Ocean City Historical Museum will host "Ocean City Natives Night—Were You There?" to discuss the 50th anniversary of Storm of '62 at the . There will be an open house in the museum at 6 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring their photos and stories from the storm.
