Saturday, Oct. 27

TRICK-OR-TREAT IN THE DOWNTOWN: Trick-or-treating will be held Sat., Oct. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. from Sixth to 11th streets on Asbury Avenue.

HAUNTED HOUSE: The ghosts and goblins will once again haunt City Hall. The Ocean City Art Club, under the direction of Paul Matusz, will resurrect the popular Haunted House after a hiatus of several years. The Halloween event is scheduled for Saturday, October 27th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the historic municipal structure, 9th and Asbury Ave. The building dates back to 1914 when Harry Headley was mayor.

City Hall is believed to have its own resident ghost. Noises have been heard late at night in the vicinity of the Council Chambers. Doors creaking and closing. That sort of thing. One cleaning person actually saw the ghost, described as a slightly built, older gentleman. A psychic medium and author of ghost books, Craig McManus, dropped by to inspect the premises, and verified that, yes, City Hall definitely has a freed spirit.

"It is believed to be former treasurer, Anthony Imbesi," City Public Relations Director Mark Soifer said. "When I started working at City Hall 41 years ago, Mr. Imbesi was treasurer. He was a warm, kindly person who really loved his job. If it is Mr. Imbesi, City Hall couldn’t have a nicer ghost."

Admission to the Haunted House will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets will be sold at the door. All proceeds benefit the Ocean City Art Club. (The city thanks to Ocean City Magazine for the information about Craig McManus.)

Saturday, Oct. 27 and Sunday, Oct. 28

MURDER MYSTERY: The Ocean City Theatre Company will perform an original, family-friendly murder mystery with a comedic twist — "A Family Reunion to Die For" — at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. See details.

Sunday, Oct. 28

TRICK OR TROT: A Halloween 5-kilometer run and 1-mile fun walk begins with 7:15 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier. For information, visit the event website. The event is sponsored by the Upper Township Soccer Association.

Monday, Oct. 29

MONSTER MONDAY: Celebrate the days leading up to Halloween with Monster Monday at Ocean City Repertory Theater. In honor of National Frankenstein Day on Oct. 29, the theater will perform a series of one-act monster stories, including one about Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.  There will be a candy and dessert reception following the show. Tickets are $15, and costumes are encouraged.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

TRICK-OR-TREAT: Halloween trick-or-treating in Ocean City is set for Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. Youngsters should be accompanied by adults and wear fireproof costumes that provide good visibility.
