Great White Shark Takes a Taste of Fishing Boat

NBC40 reports on recreational fishermen who capture video of their close encounter 30 miles off Atlantic City.

Rob Pompilio and a few friends left out of Little Egg Harbor for a fishing trip last Sunday, and they found their biggest catch about 30 miles off Atlantic City.

This one was caught on camera: a great white shark they estimated to be at least 16 feet.

The shark circled the boat and even left scratch marks on the bow, where it tried to taste the boat — "not violently, just checking it out," Pompilio said.

To follow the travels of a typical great white shark, visit the Ocearch Global Shark Tracker. On the site, follow the path of a tagged shark named Mary Lee. Since the fall she has ranged from Cape Cod to Jacksonville, Fla., to Bermuda with no apparent migratory pattern. Much of her time has been spent along the coasts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
