Five ornate gingerbread houses will be on display in the lobby of the through Jan. 3. The creations range from small to large and include a replica of the famous hotel itself.
Luscious and Sweet Gourmet Bakery of Galloway Township created the replica over a period of a few weeks, and the accurate detail has impressed visitors.
It took four people and 75 pounds of gingerbread to re-create the Flanders. The group was selected by the hotel and included Blair Higgins, Robin Speed, Dominique Marazzi and Paige Puentes, the executive pastry chef of the bakery. Robin Speed oversaw the template creation and the construction of the house, which is about two feet tall.
The works of culinary art were part of the third annual Gingerbread House Contest at the Flanders, which was judged on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The winner for the adult category was Jane Kimes with her portrayal of Grand Central Station. She received a two-night stay at the hotel in the penthouse suite.
Other winners included Julianna Evinski with Santa's Candy Shop, Helena Evinski with Gingerbread House Man and Charlotte Evinski with The Candy House.
