Coast Guard Suspends Search for Man Missing Off Cape May

Two are rescued after fishing vessel capsizes.

 

The Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing boater approximately six miles west of Cape May Point Thursday in the Delaware Bay, after a boat capsized with three people aboard, two of whom were rescued by good Samaritans.

Missing is Josh Catlett, 24, and rescued were Chris Serra, 27, and Dave Wood, 25.

The 40-foot fishing boat Linda Claire was dredging for crabs when it sank.

Serra and Wood were rescued by good Samaritans aboard the vessels Katherine Brown and Sandra Lee and later transferred to emergency medical services personnel ashore at Coast Guard Station Cape May.

A crewmember aboard the fishing vessel Captain Brown informed Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders via VHF-FM channel 16 at 8:30 a.m.

Sector watchstanders launched boatcrews from Station Cape May, Aids to Naivigation Team Cape May, a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, and the crew of the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Finback to search for Catlett. 

The New Jersey State Police also searched with a boatcrew and a helicopter crew.
