Beach Report: West Wind Could Cool Ocean in a Hurry

The waves, wind and weather at dawn on the beach and Boardwalk in Ocean City.

An offshore wind is blowing steady early on Wednesday morning, and that could spell a quick demise to our wonderfully warm ocean temperatures.

We measured 73 degrees in the surf at 14th Street, but if the west wind holds throughout the day (as predicted by the National Weather Service), the warm water we get blown out to sea and colder water will well up from the deep to replace it. It's a common occurrence every summer.

The offshore wind is accomplishing two other things: 1) blowing the little critters like salp and jellyfish back out to sea, and 2) giving us some clean little surf.

The official forecast today calls for sun with a high near 88 degrees.

Surf: Some clean little lines are coming in sets on Wednesday morning. There's too much water at high tide on the downtown beaches for any decent surf. But at the right break at the right time, there will be some fun longboard waves today. Low tide is around 12:30 p.m. today.
