Renovated Penthouse Offers Views From Atop Ocean City

The Port-O-Call Hotel's new penthouse suite is available by the week in the summer and for shorter stays in the off-season.

The remodeled suite on the 10th floor of the Port-O-Call Hotel offers all the space, upscale decor and amenities one would expect in a luxury rental, but it's the panoramic views of the ocean, beach and boardwalk that might set this penthouse above the rest.

The scenery from a private rooftop sundeck does not come cheap — but General Manager Glenn Losch says the suite has been booked solid all summer at $10,000 a week.

The penthouse can be booked for weekend or mid-week getaways at lower rates during the off-season, Losch said.

The Port-O-Call completed its renovations to the suite on May 31 with the work of the design team of Hank Page Design Consultants of Wayne, Pa.

The suite sleeps eight and includes a private elevator. Kitchen renovations include an Italian granite counter and stainless steel appliances, including refrigerator, microwave, electric range and dishwasher.

An open dining and living room with a granite fireplace hearth and ocean views offers a comfortable space for guests with furnishings from the American Bungalow Collection by Vanguard Furniture, Drexel Heritage, Bernhardt and the Resort Collection by Stanley.

Sleeping accommodations include a master bedroom suite with more ocean views, king-size bedding and a master bath with a St. Cecilia granite double sink counter top. A second bedroom includes two twin convertible beds overlooking the ocean. A den features a pull-out sofa and city views.

Suite amenities include private laundry facilities, abundant closet space, skylights, linen closet, newspaper delivery and cookies and juice for the kids in season.

Views from the rooms and sundeck stretch from the Atlantic City skyline south to Sea Isle City.

“When our firm was asked to create a new look for the penthouse at the Port-O-Call, we were immediately inspired by this iconic structure that has proudly stood alongside the boardwalk and beach of Ocean City," designer Hank Page said. "We wanted to give the penthouse the same feeling as this classic hotel and town, using the colors from the sea, sand, sea glass and boardwalk.”

"Luxury, comfort and the conveniences of home were key considerations when remodeling the penthouse," Losch said. "Carpet, paint, furniture and accessories from light fixtures to organic beach and ocean life artwork are all new."

The Penthouse Suite is rented from Saturday to Saturday in season and for weekend or mid-week getaways in the off-season. For rates and availability, call  800-334-4546 (outside of NJ) and 609-399-8812 (NJ residents) ext. 7350.

The Port O Call Hotel, located at 1510 Boardwalk, has 98 guest rooms with private balconies and has welcomed Ocean City visitors since 1966.  Known for its distinctive pink exterior, the Port-O-Call is one of Ocean City skyline landmarks.
