Five Ways to Save Money on the Essentials: Gas, Pizza and More

1. WAWA or

Deal: Wawa gasoline is the cheapest nearby at $3.37 per gallon of regular unleaded as of Tuesday night. Gas at the Garden State Parkway rest stops will be locked in at $3.39 per gallon through Friday morning (so consider that, if prices go up elsewhere on Wednesday and Thursday). But at $3.41 per gallon at the Getty station on Ninth Street, it's probably not worth going out of your way to travel off-island to fill up.

Good through: Gas prices can change daily (except on the Parkway, where they change only once a week by policy—on Fridays).

Deal: A large cheese pizza for $9.99—a great deal for Fridays during Lent.

 Good through: Easter, at least.

3. 

Deal: It's Lent, and for some folks that means no meat on Fridays. Check the $9.99 per pound deal on extra jumbo shrimp at the seafood counter.

Good through: Thursday, March 17

4. 

Deal: Boxes of Breyer's ice cream (1.5 quarts) are two for $6.

Good through: Thursday, March 17

Deal: Sale to make room for more merchandise includes 40 to 50 percent off select items at this unique jewelry store at 9th and Asbury.
