Enjoy and take advantage of the free fun Ocean City offers through the end of August.

FUNTASTIC TUESDAYS: Held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Asbury Avenue features free balloon sculptors, face painters, and strolling Mummers, fun for the entire family. Also, there are 100 fine specialty stores to investigate. Plus numerous restaurants in the downtown where you can have breakfast or lunch while enjoying the free stuff.

MUMMERS NIGHT: Also on Tuesdays, enjoy Mummers Night on the Boardwalk, with String Bands strutting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. sponsored by Shriver’s, the Surf Mall, Shirt Shack and Ocean Paradise. Enjoy a great evening on Ocean City’s Award Winning Boardwalk.

BEACH WALKS: Also on Tuesdays and Wednesdays take an informative and pleasant guided beach walk for a nominal price. Walk starts at South End Location, 59th and Central Ave. at the entrance to Corson’s Park, Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at

6:30 p.m. There’s a Walk from the north end starting at the Longport Bridge Parking lot (Gardens Parkway) Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Tickets are available on site, Adults $1, Children 50 cents.

 FARMERS MARKET: Held at Tabernacle Grounds every Wednesday with crafters on Asbury Ave. at 6th St., 8 a.m.-1 p.m. You can stroll free and buy stuff at economical prices now through Sept. 10th.

 MARKET DAYS: Every Thursday through the end of August on Asbury Ave. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Includes free entertainment (magicians, etc.) free face painters and balloon sculptors plus free pony rides for the kids at the Tabernacle, 6th and Asbury Ave.

FAMILY NIGHTS: Every Thursday through the end of August a variety of free entertainment 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. between 6th and 14th Streets on the Boardwalk. This popular program is sponsored by Old Salt, Playland Castaway Cove, Johnson’s Popcorn, Haunted Golf/Congo Falls.

CHARACTER NIGHTS: Every Sunday through August Ocean City’s colorful Boardwalk Mascots will parade on the Boardwalk. Characters will sign autographs and pose for photos at 6 p.m. in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.  Sponsored by Manco and Manco’s Pizza and Gillian’s Wonderland Pier.

SAND SCULPTING: A second sand sculpting contest is set for Aug. 6, starting 9 a.m.at the 6th St. Beach. The  Miss Crustacean Hermit Crab Beauty Pageant will be held the same day starting 1 p.m. on the 6th Street Beach by the Volley Ball Courts. The Pageant is followed by the King of Klutz Hermit Crab Races. Entry in both events is free.

THE FRECKLE CONTEST is another popular free event set for the day after Sand Sculpting on (July 10). Registration begins 6 p.m. in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, with the contest starting at 6:30 p.m. The competition is for folks with the most real or painted on freckles. It is divided into age groups: 5 and under, six to 8, 9-12, teens and adults. Prizes are awarded.  

REMINDER: BOAT AND HOME ENTRIES are now being taken for NIGHT IN VENICE starting 7:30 p.m. JULY 26 by the Longport Bridge. Entry is free. All boat owners who participate receive a free photo of their boat in the Parade and a commemorative mug. There will be prizes for the best decorated boats and bayfront homes. All home owners who enter the event will receive a commemorative mug. To register for Night In Venice, access www.ocnj.us/NIV.  The Ocean City FREE Public Library, 17th and Simpson Ave., means what it says. It offers all types of FREE programs including music, jazz programs, free movies, free classes in cooking, languages, etc. and much more. Call (609) 399-2434 for info.

 (July 9-10) The Ocean City Pops Orchestra presents GUYS AND DOLLS! 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier (also with a 2 p.m. show on July 10).  This is a fully staged Broadway musical with the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company. Don’t miss hit songs like Bushel and a Peck, Luck be a Lady and more. Tickets are $30 and $25 at the Music Pier Box Office or www.ocnj.us/boxoffice.

 (July 10) Ocean City HISTORIAN Fred Miller and author Susan Miller, will sign their new book, “Ocean City Historic Hotels” during the Ocean City Historical Museum’s 50th Anniversary Reception, 17th and Simpson Ave. at 7 p.m., admission free. On Sat., July 12 a second signing will be held at Sun Rose Words and Music, 756 Asbury Ave., from

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The book tells the story of Ocean City’s glorious past with photos of former and current grand hotels. On July 17, the Museum will present Freeholder Marie Hayes who will speak about “A Woman in Law Enforcement” at 7 p.m. Admission free.

(July 11) Professional Soccer: Ocean City NOR’ EASTERS vs. Reading United AC (Retro Night). The first 50 fans will receive a retro Ocean City Barons scarf (ticket purchase necessary). Nor’easter’s all time leading scorer, Byron Carmichael, will be the first inductee into the team’s Hall of Fame. Kick-Off 7 p.m. at Carey Stadium, 6th and Boardwalk. Tickets $10 for Adults, $7 for youth under 16. 

(July 12) Performance of Dr. Seuss’s  CAT IN THE HAT by the Ocean City Theatre  Co., 10:30 a.m. at the Moorlyn Family Theatre, 837 Moorlyn Terrace, across  from Music Pier. Tickets $10, call (609)399-0006 or www.moorlynfamilytheatre.org.

(July 13) The Ocean City Pops presents EDDIE BRUCE, 8 p.m. at the Music Pier singing Sammy Davis and more. Special guest, Paula Johns, will sing a popular Barbra Streisand duet with Eddie. Tickets are $20/$12 at Music Pier Box Office or www.ocnj.us/box office.
