New Orleans-Based Performer Displaced by Katrina to Perform in Ocean City

Ed Wise and his New Orleans Big Band come to the Music Pier.

A New Orleans-based performer who relocated to the east coast after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina comes to Ocean City this week.

Ed Wise and his New Orleans Big Band will perform in Ocean City Tuesday night.

Wise brings his imaginative arrangements of songs from the earliest era of jazz to the Ocean City Music Pier Tuesday night, 8 p.m. Tickets are $15/10.

Wise lived in New Orleans until August of 2005 when he was displaced by Hurricane Katrina. At that time, he moved to Philadelphia.

Within weeks, Wise assembled a local version of his band and began performing locally.

The band's repertoire consists of songs from the first 50 years of the 20th century, performed in a New Orleans ("Dixieland") style as well as tunes from the Great American Songbook.

Tuesday's concert is sponsored by Raymond N. Beebe, Esq. and presented by the Friends of the Ocean City Pops.
