First Night Logo Contest Winner Honored

Ocean City High School's Juliann Baker wins contest, $100

The Ocean City First Night Committee selected Juliann Baker's design from more than 50 entries to become this year's logo.

The theme of the contest was the 9th Street Bridge.

Baker, who just completed her junior year at Ocean City High School, drew the bridge coming into Ocean City with water below and fireworks overhead.

"It was fun," she said. "I was shocked (I won)."

"It's kind of cool that the First Night Committee asked for the Ocean City High School students to design it," Ocean City High School Art Teacher Paul Matusz said. "It was an assignment I gave to all my classes."

The committee had a tough choice to make with more than 50 designs submitted.

"We fought over it," Ocean City First Night Committee Member Ken Cooper said. "We had to vote on it."
