Broadway Star Comes to Ocean City June 25

Julia Murney, who most recently starred in Wicked and has made several appearances on TV shows, appears at the Ocean City Music Pier later this month.

A Broadway star is coming to Ocean City.

Julia Murney, who played Elphaba in the Broadway play “Wicked,” will join professional members of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company's (OCTC) 2014 Season in a salute to Broadway on June 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Ocean City Music Pier.

Actors appearing in summer productions of “Guys and Dolls,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and “Swingwill share their talents in a casual, fun and extremely entertaining showcase.

Murney received an Acclaim Award for her role in “Wicked.” Her other credits include “Lennon,” Andrew Lippa’s “The Wild Party” (Drama Desk nomination), “The Vagina Monologues,” “A Class Act,” “Saved,” “Crimes of the Heart,” “First Lady Suite,” and “Time and Again” (Lucille Lortel nomination).

She’s appeared across the country, including Signature, Williamstown, Reprise!LA, Sacramento Music Circus, NCT, Lyric, Rubicon and Goodspeed.

She’s performed in concert at Joe’s Pub, Feinstein’s, The Kennedy Center, Caramoor, Town Hall and Birdland as well as with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and Steven Reineke and the Cincinnati Pops.

She’s appeared on the TV shows, “30 Rock,” “Sex and the City,” “Ed,” “NYPD Blue,” and all three Law and Order series.

Her recordings include the original cast albums of “The Wild Party” and “A Class Act,” the Grammy nominated Actor’s Fund Benefit of “Hair” and her first solo album, “I’m Not Waiting,” which is available on Sh- K-Boom records.

She is a graduate of Syracuse University.

Before the show, youth of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company will have a chance to take part in a special meet-and-greet with Murney.

Artistic Director, Michael Hartman shared that having a Broadway veteran like Julia Murney join us for a celebration of musical theatre and OCTC is such a thrilling way to welcome our 2014 summer season.

“I know this will be a fabulous evening of entertainment that will feature something for everyone” Hartman said.
