May 1: Martin Z. Mollusk, Ocean City’s relatively famous hermit crab, celebrates his 40th annual visit to the Moorlyn Terrace Beach at 11 a.m. If Martin sees his shadow summer will come one week early to Ocean City. If not, no big deal, it comes on time.
The landmark celebration will feature the Ocean City High
School Band. It will play an inspirational rendition of Pomp and Circumstance
when MZM is escorted to the beach.
Participating celebrities include: Suzanne
Muldowney, portraying Shelly the Mermaid; Doug Jewell, the Air Circus Pirate;
the Ocean City Fish, the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band; Trash Buster, the
City’s Environmental symbol singing “Stand By Your Can”; Dr. Frankenstein and
Nurse Perfect, who will check Martin’s vital signs and blood pressure to ensure
he is healthy enough to creep; Big Mama Llama who designates that Martin
has seen his shadow by vigorously shaking her head; and numerous Martin
All children who attend will receive a miniature shell replica of Martin. Martin will also receive a City Proclamation honoring him for his four decades of positive weather prognostication.
SAVE THE DATE: Ocean City’s popular Mile-Long Spring Block Party is set for Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 5th to 14th streets on Asbury Avenue. The event offers over 350 crafters, food vendors, music and more. For information, call 609-525-9300.
