Through April: The Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Avenue, presents its annual Juried Photography Show. The exhibit provides both professionals and amateurs a showcase for their photos. Admission is free. The Arts Center is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For information, call 609-399-7628.

Through April: The Ocean City Fine Arts League, “Art on Asbury Avenue,” has scheduled a “Protect Our Environment Art Show” in April featuring art made of recyclable materials such as plastic, metal and or/paper. They will also present a show called “Architectural Insights, Buildings from Urban to Rural.”  For more information, call 609-814-0308 or access art@oceancityfineartsleague.org.

April 26: Join the Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Check in at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, for clean up supplies. All organizations and families are encouraged to participate in this statewide event to help keep our beaches clean and safe and to protect our coastal environment. April 26: The Step Into Spring 5K Walk/Run: Registration begins at 7 a.m. in front of the Music Pier. The Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. and it benefits the Betsy Young Memorial Foundation and Abramson Cancer Center of Philadelphia. To register call 609-233-9020 or visit www.active.com.

April 26: Spring Swing Surf Contest, 7th Street Beach, 9 a.m., with a no wave date of April 27. Divisions: 13 and under; Jr. Men 14-18 years; Men 19-30 years; Masters 30 and over; Longboard Open; and Women Open. The fee is $10 per person. You can also register the day of the event at 7th Street Beach at 8:30 a.m. This event will honor Don Pileggi for his many contributions to the Ocean City Surfing Community. April 26-27: Boardwalk and Downtown Table Sales (no vendors) 6-14th streets on the Boardwalk and Asbury Avenue.

April 27: March for the Babies Walk, 9 a.m. in front of the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and Boardwalk. For more information, visit www.marchforbabies.org or call 856-874-9050.   

May 1: Martin Z. Mollusk, Ocean City’s relatively famous hermit crab, celebrates his 40th annual visit to the Moorlyn Terrace Beach at 11 a.m.  If Martin sees his shadow summer will come one week early to Ocean City. If not, no big deal, it comes on time.

The landmark celebration will feature the Ocean City High School Band. It will play an inspirational rendition of Pomp and Circumstance when MZM is escorted to the beach.

Participating celebrities include: Suzanne Muldowney, portraying Shelly the Mermaid; Doug Jewell, the Air Circus Pirate; the Ocean City Fish, the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band; Trash Buster, the City’s Environmental symbol singing “Stand By Your Can”; Dr. Frankenstein and Nurse Perfect, who will check Martin’s vital signs and blood pressure to ensure he is healthy enough to creep; Big Mama Llama who designates that Martin has seen his shadow by vigorously shaking her head; and numerous Martin groupies.

All children who attend will receive a miniature shell replica of Martin. Martin will also receive a City Proclamation honoring him for his four decades of positive weather prognostication. 

SAVE THE DATE: Ocean City’s popular Mile-Long Spring Block Party is set for Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 5th to 14th streets on Asbury Avenue. The event offers over 350 crafters, food vendors, music and more. For information, call 609-525-9300.

GOT TALENT? If so, the organizers of the Ocean City Talent Show want you to be a part of their competition. The search is on for talented people in vocal, dance, instrumental, drama, comedy, etc. Contestants of all ages, either solo or in groups, are welcome. Applications are available at www.oceancitythreatrecompany.com  or call 609-398-1118. Applications must be completed and returned by April 28.
