South Jersey Wind Ensemble Celebrates 18th Anniversary April 28

The ensemble will perform "American Masterpieces" at the Performing Arts Center at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Galloway on April 28, 7:30 p.m.

The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble will celebrate its 18th anniversary with a spring concert April 28.

The ensemble will perform "American Masterpieces" at the Performing Arts Center at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Galloway on April 28, 7:30 p.m.

The concert takes the audience on a musical tour of Italy when it performs “The Barber of Seville Overture,” “The Anvil Chorus,”and “Trieste Overture.”

Guest euphonium soloist John Palatucci will join the group for its rendition of “Carnival of Venice.”  Palatucci is the co-principal euphonium for the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York city and principal euphonium for the Ridgewood Band. 

The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble is a 65-member group comprised of the area’s top professional musicians, music educators and other highly accomplished musicians and has been recognized as one of the top 50 community bands in the United States.  


Its members have worked closely with South Jersey’s finest student musicians, and 45 students representing 12 area high schools and the Richard Stockton College of NJ have been selected to join them on stage to play “side-by-side” for the second half of the concert.

During the performance, the ensemble will present the “Vivace” award to recognize those individuals who have supported the live arts and the band over the years. 

The honorees are Stockton College President Dr. Herman Saatkamp and his wife, Dorothy, Wallace and Roberta Barr, Dr. Walter and Helle DePalma, Frank and Sharon Kollman, Raymond and Gina Ciccone, and Stella Hordes.

The band will be led by conductor Keith W. Hodgson and associate conductor Ron Poorman.  Frank Mazzeo, Adjunct Professor of Music at Temple University, will join the group as a guest conductor.
