A playground on 29th Street to be built in honor of a victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Connecticut will be complete by Sunday, May 18.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the playground takes place Thursday, May 15, 10 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony expected for Sunday, May 18, Councilman Antwan McClellan said during Thursday night's council meeting at city hall.

The playground will be dedicated to Benjamin Wheeler, a sixth-grader who was killed in the shootings.

The playground is part of a group of playgrounds the Where Angels Play Foundation is constructing in honor of victims of Superstorm Sandy and the Sandy Hook shootings. The project is known as the Sandy Ground Project.
