Miss Eastern Shore to Host Shootout for Life in Ocean City Sunday

Devon Vanderslice, who won the Miss Ocean City pageant last year, will host the event designed to raise awareness on the education of organ donation.

Miss Eastern Shore 2014 Devon Vanderslice will help host a basketball shootout to raise money for the New Jersey Sharing Network and Children’s Miracle Network Sunday in Ocean City.

The “Donate the Gift of Life Shootout Competition” takes place Sunday at the Civic Center on Sixth Street. The event is for boys and girls in grades 4-12.

Students in grades 7-12 will have 90 seconds to make as many three-point shots as possible. Students in grades 4-6 will shoot free throws.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded and snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Vanderslice, an Ocean City resident who won the Miss Ocean City crown in 2013, has a special interest in this cause. Her cousin, Coby Lefkowitz will receive a new kidney from his mother, Coco, on April 17.

“My platform in the Miss America Organization is Donate the Gift of Life. My goal is to raise awareness on the education of organ donation,” Vanderslice said in a statement issued on Tuesday. “

The event begins at noon with registration beginning at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $10 per person.
