Former Ocean City Mayor to Compete in Mr. Mature America Pageant

Roy Gillian, current Mayor Jay Gillian's father, will compete in the inaugural pageant on March 22.

Former Ocean City Mayor Roy Gillian will compete in the inaugural Mr. Mature America Pageant March 22 at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Gillian, the father of current mayor Jay Gillian, spent 18 years in politics, and was Ocean City Mayor from 1985-89.

Gillian plays the piano and has performed at Greate Bay Country Club, among other venues.

Pageant officials previously announced Miss New Jersey Senior America 2013 Vanessa Shaw will perform, and Soprano Nancy Fox will sing a song written specifically for the occasion.

The Mr. Mature America pageant is the first in the country to honor men over the age of 60. The pageant will be preceded by a performance by the Bubba Mac Blues Band. The band is made up entirely of men over the age of 60.

Tickets are $10 with proceeds benefitting the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard and the Philippine Relief Fund. Call 609-525-9300 to order tickets.

Men 60-and-over who wish to enter the Pageant should call 609-525-9300 or email msoifer@hotmail.com. After business hours, call 609-364-4010. All contestants will receive a big Dietz and Watson ham and are invited to attend a reception at the Flanders Hotel.

Anyone who wishes to advertise in the inaugural pageant program should call 609-525-9300 and ask for the Advertising Manager. Advisory: If you place an advertisement be prepared for a huge influx of customers on the days following the Pageant.
