- January 21, 2013
The Betsy Young Memorial Fund will present a Winter Carnival for families from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Ocean City Intermediate School.
The family event includes games, prizes, food, music, special guests and a special Chinese Auction.
Proceeds benefit the Betsy Young Scholarship Fund for Ocean City High School students. The fund is named for a music teacher who inspired many young students in her 13 years of teaching at Ocean City Intermediate School. Young died of a form of brain cancer at age 50 in August 2011.
At the fundraiser, popular carnival games such as disk drop, bean bag toss, quarter pitch and lucky duck will be featured. Fifteen games will be set up and available to play at a cost of 1 to 3 tickets per game.
The same "Admit One" tickets will be good for games, food, face-painting, karaoke and for the Chinese auction. Tickets start at $15 for 10. Bigger purchases are discounted: $25 for 20 tickets, $50 for 50 tickets, and only $90 for 100 tickets.
Game players receive one prize ticket for playing and an additional prize ticket for winning.
A sample of activities includes:
- Face-painting: 2 tickets

- Use three of the "Admit One" tickets for one entry ticket for the Chinese Auction!

More About Ocean City Intermediate School
The Ocean City Intermediate School includes students from grades four through eight. Even though they share a campus, middle-school students in grades six to eight participate in separate classes and activities than the elementary school students. Unlike the city's regional high school, the intermediate school includes only Ocean City students. Smartboard technology, educational computer labs and other innovations are a routine part of the curriculum at the intermediate school.
