Headlines around the world reported the news 30 years ago on Sept. 14, 1982: Princess Grace of Monaco, formerly actress Grace Kelly, died at age 52 of injuries she suffered in a car crash the day before.
This photograph of the Kelly women was on the front page of The Sentinel-Ledger on Sept. 17, 1982 above this headline: “City mourns death of friend.”
The picture was taken during the summer of 1955 by Al Senior. From left are: Peggy, mother Margaret, Grace and Lizanne.
The article, written by Margie Bowen, quoted Ocean City Beach Patrol Hall of Famer T. John Carey: “People just thought of her as one of the people that grew up here. She was always the same person, in no way changed at all, never staging.”
The Ocean City Historical Museum will remember Grace Kelly on Friday, Oct. 12 in the Library Lecture Room at 6 p.m. The evening will include the showing of “Dial M for Murder” beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, call the museum at 609-399-1801.

Additionally and at the Museum, there are pictures of Fred Miller in his book: "Ocean City Beach Patrol" first published in 2004. This book , as well as others written by Fred, can also be purchased at the Historical Museum. Unfortunately, Historian Miller leaves out the entire era, of lifelong Ocean City resident/educator and Captain of the beach patrol, Ollie Muzslay. There is not one photo or word about Muzslay's 40yr involvement with the beach patrol, which included almost two decades as its Captain. How can that be Fred, when you worked on the patrol and under Ollie for much of that time. A personal animus maybe!

Isn't Grace the person on the right, not the third person? Remember them from years ago.

A wonderful, talented woman who died years before her time. I remember her through a child's recollection, and my little brother used to play with Princess Caroline building sand castles that my friend and me, loved to step on.... Those were the days.

Unfortunately, I did grow up, and I never appreciated the saying, "youth was wasted on the young," until I grew much older. I will always cherish my fond memories of my childhood summers in Ocean City.

No problem Matt, although I was a little taken aback by what I thought was a harmless story unless of course, you are a sand castle aficionado.
