Crazies come out at night on the Ocean City Boardwalk. If you're wild enough to challenge five foot waves and get sand in your shorts on the beach during the day (check out our previous blog “Ocean City Beach…A More Congenial Spot”) then you may be crazy enough to dance with the Mummers on the boardwalk at night.
As a three year old in 1950, daytime waves were magnificent, salty and powerful, and the night time Boardwalk was bright, raucous and alluring. Combining Beach and Boardwalk was a childhood knock-out punch, enjoyed by the entire family. At the end of the day, we'd be refreshed with all our senses stimulated; ready for a good night's sleep, we were free to dream of splashing and laughter in the next day's surf.
As a sixty five year old, I'm back with surf board, camera and wife Sheri in hand. It’s an endless summer kind of thing--seduced by the magnificent beach and boardwalk sirens singing their love songs, and tempting us with warm French fries. While Sheri and I now speak with senior groups about active healthy aging and lifestyles, we share stories of the Ocean City Beach and Boardwalk as world renown places to celebrate living.
As far as dancing with Mummers go, (check out the video)we hope you hold that against us, since we refuse to act our age…please join us!
Positively yours, Sheri and Bill

I appreciate there are no pictures of sand in your shorts, but enjoyed the video and slideshow. Thanks for keeping summer alive for the senior set and others young at heart.
