Yogurtland Celebrates Grand Opening on Eighth Street

An Eighth Street building that has been vacant since Dixie Picnic closed three years ago is now home to the colorful new Yogurtland.

The frozen yogurt shop celebrated its grand opening Tuesday in a renovated beach-block building just off the Boardwalk. Mayor Jay Gillian, Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michele Gillian and Ocean City firefighters helped owner Michael Haines cut the ribbon on the new enterprise.

Haines said the Yogurtland franchise takes pride in a proprietary blend of frozen yogurt shipped cold from California. The shop features 16 flavors and 53 toppings (including fresh fruit) with customers creating their own dishes and paying by the ounce.

Haines, a former medical device salesman from Princeton, owns two other Yogurtlands — in Denville (Morris County) and Hamilton Township (Mercer County). The franchises are the first in New Jersey for the California-based company.

The shop will be open daily 10 a.m. to midnight starting this weekend. It will be opening evenings through the rest of this week.
