The Cookies Crumble and Weird Contest Week Carries On

A cookie-sculpting contest took place on Wednesday, and two more days of contests are on tap.

Ocean City visitors from across the East Coast gathered Wednesday to eat cookies on the Ocean City Music Pier — and their nibblings left works of art that ranged from a crab to the Statue of Liberty.

In the "That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles" contest, people were challenged to chew a work of art out of a huge cookie (12 inches in diameter) from . Prizes were awarded in age divisions that included: 5-and-under, 6-8, 9-12, teens and adults.

The contest was part of a week of free family events that started on Monday and continues through Friday, Aug. 17.

The contests start each day at 11 a.m. on the . Pre-registration is not required. Families and individuals just need to come a few minutes early to sign in.

  • Thursday: Make a work of art from paper clips (memorable entries have included the Eiffel Tower, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building). A bonus contest — Ears Looking At You —is for folks who like to wiggle their ears. Doug Jewell, the yo-yo wizard from , will receive our annual IMMY Award for imagination from last year’s winner Jerry Lukas, a talented cartoonist, who will do free personalized cartoons for visitors.
  • Friday: Little Miss and Little Mr. Chaos includes children ages 3 to 5 equipped with pots and pans competing to make as much noise as possible in three minutes. Mr. and Miss Miscellaneous includes "those who have always wanted to compete in a talent contest, but maybe missed the bus or got stuck at a rugby game."
