Weird Contest Week Continues With Cookies, Chaos and More
The free family events take place 11 a.m. Wednesday to Friday on the Ocean City Music Pier.
Ocean City's finest food sculptors have already transformed taffy and refabricated french fries, but a week of "weird contests" continues on Wednesday with a cookie-sculpting contest at 11 a.m. on the Ocean City Music Pier.
In the "That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles" event, contestants are challenged to chew a work of art out of a huge cookie (12 inches in diameter) from Wards Pastry. When judging is over, they are encouraged to eat the cookie.
A week of free family events started on Monday and continues through Friday, Aug. 17. The contests start each day at 11 a.m. Prizes are awarded in age divisions that include: 5-and-under, 6-8, 9-12, teens and adults.
The remaining Weird Contest Week event schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday: Cookie Sculpting.
- Thursday: Make a work of art from paper clips (memorable entries have included the Eiffel Tower, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building). A bonus contest — Ears Looking At You —is for folks who like to wiggle their ears. Doug Jewell, the yo-yo wizard from Air Circus, will receive our annual IMMY Award for imagination from last year’s winner Jerry Lukas, a talented cartoonist, who will do free personalized cartoons for visitors.
- Friday: Little Miss and Little Mr. Chaos includes children ages 3 to 5 equipped with pots and pans competing to make as much noise as possible in three minutes. Mr. and Miss Miscellaneous includes "those who have always wanted to compete in a talent contest, but maybe missed the bus or got stuck at a rugby game."
