John Thornton, a resident of the Ocean City Homes neighborhood on the south end of Ocean City and a teacher at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, recently completed a third segment of a film about the impact of Superstorm Sandy on his friends, neighbors and hometown.

The first 14-minute segment of the film starts on Saturday, Oct. 27, two days before Sandy makes landfall and continues through the storm. The second part of the film is about Sandy's impact on Ocean City. It starts the day after Sandy makes landfall as Thornton gets his first look at the storm's effects.

The new segment of film (featured above) shows Thornton visiting the flooded home of his stepson and family as they start to gut their house and come to grips with their devastating loss. He also takes a tour of the north end. His friend Tom Judd sings a rendition of "Hard Times Come Again No More" as Thornton's camera surveys the aftermath of Sandy.

One thing I notice from this video is how much water the particle board soaked up as opposed to the plywood (my Dad's house had 6" of water in it and had no buckling of the floors since he had a plywood subfloor.

Hopefully they will change the codes to not allow the use of particle board in home construction...

I think this video was most informative. I just wish you had shown 34th and Bay.

I have enjoyed all 3 parts of this series. The third part was especially emotional. Thank you and God Bless all who lost so much.

Thanks and I will be showing some f the bay area in the next installment. One thing that kind of got me is how much some of the shots of people digging out reminded me of the Depression era images of hardship, particularly the Dust Bowl. The song that my friend tom Judd sings in the fim, "Hard Times Come Again No More" sounds like it could have been written by Woody Guthrie during the Great Depression. In fact it was written by Steven Foster in 1854, not too long before the Civil War. I guess hard times come to all generations whether we like it or not.

On October 17, the Ocean City Planning Board voted unanimously to recommend to City Council that it approve a change to the Beach and Dune Zone that would greatly reduce control over the size and scope of homes in the area on the east side of Beach Road. City Council must vote NO!

All of these videos have been GREAT- The North Street pics do remind me of what I saw a week after the '62 storm - family house at 34 Beach Rd- I would be very interested in purchasing a disc when you complete this series!
