Special Offering at Ocean City Churches This Weekend Will Help Food Cupboard
The Ecumenical Council is asking congregants to pitch in.
The Ocean City Ecumenical Council and Ministerium invites Ocean City congregations to participate in a special offering of funds for the Ocean City Community Food Cupboard the weekend of July 28 and 29.
The Catholic churches of Ocean City's St. Damien Parish have already participated, according to Elaine Wilson of the Ecumenical Council. But as many as 10 other churches will have special offerings this weekend, and the council is asking churchgoers to donate to help the Food Cupboard.
The Food Cupboard is managed by volunteers from the churches throughout Ocean City as part of the multi-denominational Ecumenical Council. In 2011, the Food Cupboard provided enough food for 24,000 meals to needy families and seniors.
Food Certificates were distributed for Thanksgiving and Christmas to more than 300 individuals and families screened for real need.
"The Ocean City Community Food Cupboard serves the poor and hungry in our community," Wilson said. "The cost for this program continues to escalate as the number of clients served increases."
Wilson said the community has been generous with donations of food but that monetary donations "really help us to go further."
