Authorities suspect a medical emergency caused a driver to cross into the opposite lane of traffic in a single-car accident today.

The accident occurred at the intersection of 6th and Asbury around 1:05 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 23). A man driving a Buick northbound on Asbury Avenue crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a parked truck, according to the Ocean City Fire Department. The truck's driver was not in the vehicle at the time, Ocean City Police said.

The driver was transported to Atlantic City Medical Center’s trauma center. His condition was not known.

Police shut down the intersection for the accident investigation. Early results indicate the driver had a medical condition that caused the accident. No summonses have been issued.
