Holiday Weekend Leaves Traffic Jammed on Route 52 Causeway

The main route to Ocean City was jammed with weekend visitors coming and going on Saturday.

The Route 52 causeway was backed up for more than two miles with traffic trying to get onto the island for the holiday weekend on Saturday morning and early afternoon.

Motorists experienced the same tieups as they tried to leave the island late Saturday afternoon and early evening. The Route 52 (Ninth Street) and 34th causeways were both backed up all the way from the mainland to the island.

Drivers heading to Ocean City may want to consider an alternate route on Sunday.

Easter weekend in Ocean City draws crowds with a series of special events, half-price sales on ride tickets and a lot of openings for seasonal businesses.

Construction on the causeway is limiting traffic to one lane in each direction, and the intersections at either end of the causeway are still not complete. But the project is in its final phases, and a full traffic pattern is expected to return by Memorial Day.

I think the old circle should have been replaced with an "over-pass" bridge instead of a flat intersection requiring traffic lights. Then again, I'm not a civil engineer.

But you can certainly spend $60 for 4 for breakfast at Uncle Bill's. Please come over the bridge !!! How about an investigation into that robbery. Terrible ..

if people are willing to spend that kind of money on a pancake why not charge them? They must be doing something right for people to wait in line, more power to them. No one is forcing you to go there, its like the fools who wait in line for 30 minutes for Browns donuts. You dont think they have slow service on purpose? The greatest advertising gimmick going, people see the line and think they must have amazing donuts. You can walk down the boardwalk and get the same great tasting donuts at Oves and only wait 3 minutes. Just because they have faster service doesn't mean their donuts aren't just as good!

But I can almost assure you there will be a wait at Uncle Bill's tomorrow morning...

"A fool and his money will soon be parted" LOL - Probably the biggest scam on the island. Forget the BYOB.. I would never eat there again. Ready's, Airport, Yianni's much better bang for your buck. Yeah, they will be lined up, like they do at the crack houses !!!!

A "local" wouldn't usually eat at Uncles Bill's. Like the Chatter Box, it's more for tourists. Have you tried Bongo's on Bay Ave. somewhere between 11th and 14th. It's fairly new - possibly openned last summer. We tried it and it was very good with more of a gourmet menu that most breakfast places.

Yes Parker, have eaten at Bongo's and you are dead on my friend. Very good food, nice selection. And I agree on Uncle Bill's, not a locals choice.

I am a local and i eat at Uncle Bills. I think there are some things they do really well just like there are some things Bongos does well and some things Readys does well.
But the bridge? I think John Hay is just right - the new traffic light system is going to cause nothing but backups. You can time lights to help out the traffic flow but if there is a lot of traffic anything that stops it is going to lead to a backup.

I used to live in OC. Now I live on the mainland. It is such a crime what the city allowed the developers to tear down & build up. I always laugh whenever I see or hear of a congestion issue with OC. You did it to yourselves. So go eat your hoagies and find your parking spot 5 blocks from your 4th floor condo.

I have lived in OC since I was a zygote so top that! All the native zygotes know that Readys is real thing - too much food for the price, nice people (if you like that sort of thing), and too much food for the price (worth mentioning twice).
Thank you, Sam Samstie write-in candidate for council
