Primary Election Results: Romney, Kyrillos, LoBiondo Win in GOP

Check results of the primary election and see who will represent Ocean City on the Republican and Democratic political party committees.

Voters affiliated with political parties went to the polls on Tuesday to pick their candidates for the general election in November.

In a Republican presidential race of little consequence (because Mitt Romney clinched the nomination on May 29 in the Texas primary), New Jersey Republicans confirmed Romney with 81 percent of their votes. Ron Paul (10 percent), Rick Santorum (5 percent) and Newt Gingrich (3 percent) were also on the ballot.

The state's Republicans picked Joe Kyrillos (with 77 percent of their votes) to challenge incumbent Democrat Robert Menendez in the race to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate. Kyrillos is a long-time state senator from Middletown Township in Monmouth County.

U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo easily won the Republican vote to run for his 10th term in the House Of Representatives representing New Jersey's 2nd District. He beat Absecon resident Mike Assad, 88 percent to 12 percent.

LoBiondo will be challenged by Democrat Cassandra Shober, who won Tuesday's Democratic primary with 65 percent of the vote. She defeated Viola Hughes (26  percent) and Gary Stein (9 percent). Shober is a business person and mother from Ventnor.
