Photo Gallery: Storm on Tuesday in Ocean City
As the remains of Hurricane Sandy move away, a long cleanup begins.
With a massive October storm moving west on Tuesday, we get a first glimpse of the damage left behind.
(This story is developing. Check back for more information and images.)

I am on 49th and Haven. Old house, not up high on pilings. 2 feet of water in laundry room, portions of front screened porch gone, tons of debris, yet only one tiny patch of soggy rug in the hallway of first floor, water came in under house, not through doors.

anyone seen or heard from the mayor? hmmm . . .
Hiker Gal
2:37 pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2012
The mayor had a news conference I saw on Channel 6 this afternoon. He said he's never seen such destruction. Said the south end was hit particularly hard, though all town was affected. Said 2 of the fire stations were flooded but were able to put out several fires. Some people have no power, neither does th high school. We're still not allowed to go back. Said Asbury Av. stores had 1-2 feet of water inside. Boardwalk appeared to be o.k. except for ramps leading up to the boardwalk.

Picture 18 in the photo gallery looks like Blitz's at 34th and Asbury. Anyone have an idea when that photo was taken? I'm wondering if that was near the peak flooding or if the water got much higher than that.
ABrack

That was at 5pm on Monday. It is Blitzs at 34th. That was as high as I saw it get via webcam. After that it was too dark.

8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2012
Thanks ABrack. According to a tide station in the bay there was about 2-2.5' of additional surge from 5pm to 8:30 (hopefully less than that on "land"). Still hopeful the water stayed below our floor boards.

Natalie, pic #18 in the photo gallery above shows Blitz's at 34th and Asbury. ABrack says the pic was taken about 5pm on Mon., just before the storm made landfall. I think the worst case is that the water got 2.5 feet higher than what's shown in the picture, but could be much less than that based on water lines I see in other pictures the next day.

Thanks so much for the photos, those of use who visit OC every year feel a tremendous love for this place, I'm kind of tired of seeing tv views of Staten Is etc, I want to know how the little city we love has made it through Sandy. It's not pretty but not devastated. Now I can sleep.. We'll be back OC! Wish I lived close enough to help dig out.
